Course Description:
This course is a practical hands-on civil/survey CAD Lab experience. Students will work through a basic road design project from beginning to end using Civil 3D, showing many different methods of using Civil 3D to accomplish certain tasks and solve problems along the way. The course covers the basics of basemap preparation, preliminary layout, survey plan, surfaces generation, horizontal alignments, profiles, corridor modeling, and grading. Students are encouraged to continue their learning with the Level 2 course. Prerequisite: Civil industry background with AutoCAD skills or instructor permission.
Course General Parameters:
• Meets in Civil / Survey CAD Lab Room J-7
• 10 Week Course - 60hours/5 Credits
• Monday and Wednesday Nights from 6-9 PM
• Typically (1) one hour classic lecture with the balance of time conducted as a hands-on
instructor driven lab to exercise the course materials each night.
• Proposed Textbook - Digging Into AutoCAD Civil 3D 2008- Level 1 Training by Rick
Ellis of Cadapult Software Solutions, Inc.
• Course prerequisites: AutoCAD experience and Civil Background. This course is for new
and starting users of Civil 3D. This course is not for moderate or advanced Civil 3D
users.
• If the course goes well, a Civil 3D - Level 2 course may be offered as a follow up.
